Hari Raya Family Portraiture
To all my Muslim friends and clients, SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI. MAAF ZAHIR DAN BATIN. And have a great Merdeka Day, celebrating ouf 54th independence to all Malaysians on 31 August.
It would be very much helpful if we photographers have some time to prepare for an assignment before the actual photography session. But sometimes, when opportunity knock on your door, you have no such advantage over it but to rely on your past experience to make it a fruitful session.
I received a call on Sunday afternoon while heading home after lunch, requesting me a last minute assignment for Dato Affendie’s family portrait for Hari Raya. It was pretty sudden as the shoot would take place in two hours time. Not knowing who my client was, nor his background but to accept the challenge was something a step of faith.
“OK. I’ll do it” That was my reply, but in heart I seriously had no idea why would I accept the job. I had to rush home to charge my batteries, to prepare three full bags of equipment specially cater for mobile family session, and lastly to grab a friend of mine along as my step in assistant.
I love to shoot family portraits. I love dealing with people, and to capture their best moments. I love to make them look good. Especially prior to the festive season, I am pretty sure everyone would love to have a great portrait of their own being taken professionally. Below are some of the shots we created in one hour. I guess with proper communication, nothing was too difficult to achieve although I met Dato Affendie and Datin Jamilah as well as their other family members for the first time.
An individual portrait of Dato Affendie
