Love this wedding. Love the people. Love the idea of shifting church ceremony to a restaurant. And I certainly had the opportunity to shoot portraits indoor without sweating much like usual in Four Points By Sheraton, Kuching.

Paulus and Yee Chee finally celebrated their wedding. With great people hanging around, I certainly loved the opportunity to mingle. Here are some of the highlights we’ve captured on this very day.

This time, we chose Melaka. In fact, this is the first of a few Melaka sessions I have in 2012. It is something that is slightly unusual for me, something that I have to tweak my usual shooting style to create different feeling to suit the heritage background. I am thankful for those who worked hard to make this happen, including Keith and Sabrina, our clients. Resting peacefully in Alicia’s palm, that’s Faith’s little hand.

I captured this about 2 or 3 months ago, when Faith was much smaller. Being as an excited parent, I wanted to deliver a simple but a strong message to my little angel that she’s covered, shielded and guided in our family, by God’s grace. She is safe in our hands.

Oh Darling Faith, my lil angel, may you grow bigger, healthier and wiser.

Below are just some of the photos we had during the whole 5 hour session. Great fun, great time, and great couple. It is important that I am also a firm believer of the best pre wedding spot is always my home. No one knows this place better than I do.

People seem to be overwhelmed by the beautiful photos taken in pre wedding sessions. Some might even have forgotten to include in hiring a reliable professional wedding day photographer to capture the important moments. In fact, many times we heard this:

“Oh… My cousin just got himself a DSLR. He’ll snap some good photos for us.”

Nah, it’s not like that. Wedding day photographs are much more meaningful than just appointing someone who functions a DSLR. While not everyone is trained to do the wedding day job, it’s important to ensure you have a reliable professional photographer to capture such special moments. If I would describe pre wedding photos are like beautiful paintings. painted by your pre wedding photographer into a fairytale. Then, the professional wedding photographer on your wedding day is like a journalist that writes a good story based on the happenings around you. He sees, he drafts and composes a story that is uniquely  yours based on his experience. Each and every photo tells a story, it’s one and uniquely yours. There is no duplication. It is priceless, timeless and in long term is a classic and nostalgic memories.

My family and I had a short get away from the city outing last week for a few days. It meant to keep us off from daily routine in work, and to relax our minds, especially for me. Faith, my lil girl joined us for the first time. What an experience. She was so excited on the first day especially, screaming and shouting, and did not sleep until quite late. Well, babies nowadays are very different.

Just to share with some of the snap shots taken. Well, not all the time we need to share our work of brides and grooms. But I think sharing personal’s photos are equally interesting on a photography related site.

It’s coming to an end of 2011. What a wonderful year I have so far, leaving a few more days before crossing our steps to the brand new 2012!

Looking back, regardless of any condition, all I need is to give thanks. I can’t ask for more, for I have is truly sufficient. And I can’t thank God enough for that.

2011 is remarkable in its way. I might not be one of the rescue warriors in post Japanese earthquake (happened while I was shooting a wedding in Singapore). I am also not the late Steve Jobs’ quality contributing to the world’s technology with a fruit. But I guess at least I have done enough to do my best to record every moment through my work. I received many positive feedbacks from brides and grooms this year, that especially warm my heart as an assurance I am doing pretty good in this industry. The 30 plus wedding assignments as well as some other portrait jobs this year truly worth the hard work and sacrifices despite I had to travel extensively within the country as well as overseas.

In summary, below are some of the key highlights, or even some unexpected events that I enjoyed heaps in 2011 which mark another good chapter in my life.

1. Covered more than 30 wedding related assignments

It’s a real blessing to have more than 30 wedding related assignments covered this year under my belt. It’s pretty cool for me, as my aim of doing 30 assignments has been achieved. 30 plus wedding related assignments are just good for me, as I intend to keep it at about the same number so I can continue to deliver high standard of work. I don’t do back to back weddings, I treasure family life and health more. A wedding shoot a week is far more than enough.

But I do hope to have more pre wedding related assignments, especially for 2012. This is the area I hope to increase my number. 2. Awards from ISPWP

Participating in various international competitions is to see where I stand among the international wedding photographers. I don’t content be a photographer that is only recognized locally. It is not something I am looking to be. I’d prefer to set apart and be one of the preferred wedding photographers recognized internationally with high standard of work.

This year, after WPPI, I took another step to participate in International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP)’s contest. Well, I scored a 4th place in bride’s portrait in my debut as well as a 2nd place and 8th place after that. Not forgetting a few Accolade of Excellence in WPPI’s competition. Overall it is not a bad result I guess. I am pretty happy about it.

3. Travel, travel and travel…

Did I tell you I love shooting street and travel photos? Well, as long as there are people involve, I just love shooting them. That is why I am in wedding industry because I love the opportunity interacting with people and making them look beautiful in the photos. This year, I guess I am blessed enough to be able to do more street photos more than I expected. I had the opportunities to pay visits to Bali, Saigon and Seoul for personal and work related trips. For Saigon especially, a personal leisure trip just to do some street shooting with my close friends was truly a good time to find more inspiration in photography.

Next, Japan (end March) and Australia (end May) are the confirmed trips. And  I do hope to squeeze some time for China and Cambodia for personal street shooting again! If you think you wanna join me and some other friends as street shooter enthusiast, let me know.

4. Faith Yeo, my lil princess

I am a father! I can’t express the joy of being a father, looking forward to be home everyday to spend time with my family and play with the new born. Weekend is the best time I ever had, to be with my wife and the 7-month old princess.

2011 will come to the past. Do not look back, as I believe better thing is aways ahead of us, with the shower of blessings from above. Let’s pray for better, while taking sweet memories and making them ours.

I broke my promise!

After doing my last Christmas wedding assignment in 2008, I promised I would never accept any  job on Christmas day so I can spend quality time with my family. Thereafter, I have declined a number of enquiries for Christmas weddings on 2009, 2010 or even 2011.

Not until I met them, Zul and Ho Hui, my promise was finally broken.

This time is just different. It’s rare I do a Malay wedding, and Zul and Ho Hui’s wedding was the first Malay wedding in 2011 as well as the last assignment I had of the year. It was the rare opportunity that attracted me to sacrifice a little. And of course, there’s aways a mutual understanding in between my family and I. My wife was fully behind me.

I learn that it’s the fresh idea from the bride and groom that push us forward for something new and different. And we are willing to give in for something that is new, rare and exciting. If you have a unique plan or idea for your wedding, I am open to it and willing to compromise within to compliment your special day.
